You are not alone

"For several years, my husband lived in Ottawa, my son in Victoria, and I stayed in Mexico.

Sometimes when I was alone, I cried. I wouldn’t sleep until 4am and I would wake up late. I didn’t know what to do by myself.

When I went out, I had some thoughts that people would look at me and say “oh poor lady she is alone”. But the truth is nobody knew that I was alone. Our mind just creates all these scenarios.

I learned little by little through the years to be alone. Now that I’m older, I’m not as scared because I know that there are many things to do. I can take courses, colour, write poetry, and hike.

I think that I am very fortunate to have a place to live, a family, and a good kid. But there are many people that feel alone. So I want to help others.

I recently joined Edmond's Community 55+ Club. There are many activities to do and I go hiking with them. We go hiking and everyone shares their stories because we are all from different backgrounds, many of us have come from different countries.

I want to help other people to go outside of their homes. People need to know that they are not alone.”
